You know you are called to do this work. You want your therapy business to be a great success. Now what?

Dear Therapist Colleague,

Take a moment and picture yourself and your practice when you have reached your definition of success – see yourself at the pinnacle of your career. Enjoy that vision. Take it all in – the sights, the sounds, the feelings … all of it.
Because that is exactly where you are called to be. This is what you can look forward to.What is next for you to reach that goal?

Do you need to be clearer on how to attract clients? Do you need to make sense of what you already know about marketing? Is it accountability you need?

Could you use a mentor to help show you the way?

For me, the answer has always been to have a mentor…. someone who has done what I specifically want to do.

To help me to be more successful (and to have fun on the journey) I seek out people on the leading edge of marketing and business … people who can tell me not only what works but why it works and when it might not work. I’ve always sought out mentors who would help me prepare not only for today but for tomorrow as well. My mentors are people who challenge the status quo and want to help me to leap ahead of the pack and become that success I dream about.

For the last year, a few people have had the opportunity to work in my one on one Diamond Mentorship program with me. The Diamond Mentorship program is for the advanced therapy business owner who is looking to jump to a new level of success.

But I understand that not everyone is able to participate in that type of program. That is why I am very proud and excited to announce our newest program:

How to Fill Your Practice in an Uncertain World
“The Therapist as Entrepreneur”

a new “Winning Strategies” Group Mentorship Program
with me, Casey Truffo

For over a decade I have taught therapists the nuts and bolts steps to building a cash-paying practice. But for the first time, I am going to offer a new program – a “Winning Strategies” group mentorship program with me, Casey Truffo, training and coaching you and other success-minded theraprenuers with and beyond the basics.

To me, a mentor is someone who gives you both the nuts and bolts steps to building a successful business but also provides thought leadership to help expand your ideas and actions. One goal with this new program is to help you build the therapy business you want by teaching you sound business principles and I will give you a step by step system to fill your practice.

But if all you want is business or marketing advice, there is a lot of free stuff on the internet. In this program we will go beyond the basics of attracting clients. We will talk about the bigger business and marketing questions so that you can define and create even more success for yourself. We will look ahead at trends in our society that will have a direct impact on you and your clients in the future. We will explore how to create and manage your business to avoid burnout and make it sustainable, profitable and, well, fun, for years to come.

This “Therapist as Entrepreneur” Winning Strategies Group Mentorship program will be a ten month program – held over the phone and internet.

Here are my goals for this program:

1. To teach you how to make more money.

2. To help you focus and be more productive so that you use your time in the best way for you.

3. To show you upcoming trends that can help you prepare for the future of your therapy business.

4. To help you have more fun on the Therapy Business Owner journey with like-minded colleagues.

5. To help you build and flex your Therapy Business Owner muscles so that you can create a more sustainable business that serves you, your clients and helps you to weather the economy.

Here is my concept of this state of the art program.

Here are more details about what you will receive in this program:

Program Benefits

As you immerse yourself in this one-of-a-kind group mentorship training and coaching program you will have the opportunity to experience and receive the following benefits:

1.  A Monthly Training, Trending and Mentoring  (Q&A) call. In this 75 to 90 minute group call held monthly over the phone and internet, we will cover:

-a marketing or business principle with real world examples and applications and my unique take on how you might apply it in your therapy business to attract more clients or run your business easier and more effectively. (Below you can see the topics I have in store for you.)

-a trend related to our culture, therapy, or marketing that can help you attract and serve your ideal clients. I spend thousands of dollars and hours of my time researching the future. Let me share with you what I am learning.

- at least 30 minutes of  question and answer or laser coaching on each monthly group call. Got a question? Stuck somewhere? On each monthly call (held over the phone and internet) we will spend time helping you move through the roadblocks that may be stopping you The live calls will be held (usually) be on the third Monday of the month at 2pm Pacific/5pm Eastern) (Downloadable mp3 recordings WILL be available for each call if you are unable to make them live).

2. Four (4) pre-recorded Pro-Therapy mini-videos (1-3 minutes) that you can download and put on your website. These tasteful videos are designed to promote the benefits of therapy and will enhance the beauty of your site. Having a video like this on your website will put you solidly on the leading edge of this “pro-therapy” movement.

3. A digital copy of our “How To Build A Full and Rewarding Private Practice” self study course. Filled with exercises, more details on the “how-to’s” and marketing plan templates, this is a resource you will refer to again and again. This is your “nuts and bolts” of filling your practice manual. In it I share the details of 17 different marketing activities.

4. Members-only social networking site. Think of this as a “Face-book for Therapists in Private Practice” Make new friends and share your successes in a private setting – with other success-minded therapists.

5. An accountability program that gets you points! Most of us could use a little nudging in the accountability department. But how do we measure our productivity? How about with a “points”system?

This new mentorship program will have an optional accountability program. If you like, you can have automatic reminders sent to you to check with you about the progress of your goals. But let’s make it like a game! Everyone loves points. So with this program, you can set your goals and win points for your progress. Each month at InTLI, we will profile and celebrate a “Therapreneur of the month” – someone who is consistently making progress toward his or her therapy business goals and accumulating points.

6. Preferred rates with some of our favorite partners and vendors. As long as you are a member, you will receive a 15% discount on all Be A Wealthy Therapist products (individual coaching excluded.) There will also be opportunities to get discounts on Ofer Zur’s CEU programs and the Chill Session’s Create Your Own CDs program membership.

But what topics will we cover in this
“Therapist as Entrepreneur –
How to Fill Your Practice in an Uncertain World”
Winning Strategies group mentorship program?

As mentioned you will receive the “how to create and implement your marketing plan” step-by-step detailed information in your no-charge copy of the digital self study course: How to Build Your Full and Rewarding Private Practice.

On our once-a-month training and coaching calls, we will cover these topics over the next ten months:

Your Core Business Vision and Foundation. Every therapy business is structured differently. How you envision success for your practice ultimately determines how you structure your policies, schedule and client selection. Let’s take a look at your policies and procedures – including reporting, client billing and following through on the implementation of  your office policies. We will look at streamlining, innovating and systematizing your activities.  Both beginner and more seasoned clinicians will take away new ideas from this call.

Money, Spirit, and the Economy. We know that how you think and feel about money has a direct impact on your earning power. It is easy to get scared when your caseload goes down. Practically, it is important to have a “money plan” so that you are prepared for the inevitable dips in your caseload. But let’s go deeper. Let’s get clearer on what to charge and why you charge it so that you feel confident whenever you set, negotiate or collect fees.

Develop an Outcome Orientation: Know what people want and what you offer. People pay for outcomes. They want to feel happier, get along better or behave differently. Learn how to identify the outcomes that people have when working with you so that you can develop even more client-connecting language in your marketing.  If you already have “outcome” language, this might be a great time to look at it again and see if it needs refreshing.

Surround Yourself with KEY influencers and Nurture Personal Connections. You’ve heard the expression “It isn’t what you know, it is who you know.”  To create raving referral sources, people need to really like and appreciate you as a person first. We call this “rapport and relationship” building which precedes any request for referrals. In this session, I will share how to identify the key influencers already in your life – and how to locate, connect and build relationships with new ones. We will discuss how to connect and stay connected with people so that your name is “top of mind” when they are ready to make a referral.

Build Your Reputation and Your Practice with Speaking. Many of your colleagues have abandoned their local community market on the internet. Which means there is a lot of room and desire for local presentations. We will talk about how to get speaking engagements and how to turn audience members into clients. We will address when and where you should or could use technology for your presentations in order to reach a larger audience – ie. webinars and teleseminars.

Create a Pointed Website. As the internet gets noisier and more therapists are on the web, your website needs to speak even more to your ideal client. This means not only sharing your understanding of the pain they are in but to do so in such an engaging way that you stand out among your colleagues. In this session we will discuss the use of video, client assessments, personality typing, online schedulers and other tools you can use to engage your web audience.

Master the Piggyback: Meet Clients Where They Already Are. One of the most effective and yet underutilized marketing strategies is to build strategic alliances with other professionals who are already servicing your target market with complimentary services. Learn how to identify who would be potential strategic partners for you and how you can propose and create successful joint ventures (e.g. workshop, retreat or even a book project) with them. You will also learn a formula of how to share joint venture revenues with your strategic partners.

Don’t Let Yourself Off the Hook: Create Accountability. Many therapreneurs find it much easier to create a marketing plan than to follow through and implement it – week after week. On this call, I will share with you three ways to create accountability so that each week you are moving forward toward your goal to create the results you want. (Don’t forget this training and coaching program has an optional accountability module if you’d like us to be your accountability partner!)

Repeat What Works. There is no need to reinvent the wheel each time you want to attract a new client or offer a new program. Learn how to track your results so that you can simplify your marketing by doing what you’ve proven to work in your  business. We will also address how and when it is time to change tactics – meaning how long to try a marketing activity before you decide to stop it.

Love your business and your life: Let’s make it easier. This will be a mini-retreat call where we will address the self-care issues of you: the Therapy Business Owner. And I am talking about Business Self Care – how you can manage your business in a way that allows you time to recharge and renew your brain, body and internal batteries. A good Business Self Care Plan,  helps to avoid burn out and allows you to comfortably and sustainably perform in your business year after year.

You said this group mentorship program will also include looking at trends?

Great business owners – just like great drivers – are looking ahead to where and how things are going. On each monthly call we will also look at current trends and research that can enrich our marketing, business and clinical work. Studying trends with me doesn’t mean you have to run out and change your methods of marketing or running your business. But knowing about what might impact you and your current and prospective clients is a good buisness practice and can ultimately help you stay in business as others are leaving. In this mentorship program, on our monthly calls, we will also take a look at these trends:

    1. What keeps clients in therapy. If  you are like most clinicians, more than once you have been surprised (or, more likely, frustrated) when clients leave treatment earlier than you had planned. It impacts their success and while we may not want to talk about it, it also impacts your income. Let’s take a look at the current research and let me share with you how the experts say you can identify when a client is about to leave treatment early and what you can do to prevent that from happening.

    1. How technology will  affect the way clients want therapy delivered. It has already started. Clients are seeing themselves as “customers” and want to be served on their terms. We’ll discuss how to get in front of this trend and be ready with flexible service delivery options so that you are attracting more clients. (Plus this gives you an opportunity to tap into your creativity and design a new way of practicing that works for you and your personality.)

    1. How the prevalence of mobile phones might impact the marketing your practice. In some countries, there are more mobile phones than there are people! Plus we know that the younger generation is doing most of their connecting via texting and apps on their phones.  You may or may not want to learn about this new technology but I encourage you to be aware of the impact it will have one day. People are saying that mobile phones now are like the internet was when it first started. Here is a chance to explore what it might mean for you and marketing your therapy business in the not-so-distant future.

    1. How the “Self-Help Movement” is negatively impacting our culture – and what you can do about it in your work. The Self-help movement is an 8 billion dollar a year business. It is quite successful because of the way it identifies and then “treats” people. We will take a look at how the self help movement can affect – and sometimes hurt – people in our culture. Together we might want look at ways to address this.

    1. Why niching isn’t always the hot ticket it once was. First we practice-building experts encouraged you to market a general practice – then we switched our advice and told you to market to a specific niche. I have been researching this and would like to challenge our current assumptions and say that perhaps there is no “right answer” and, as your mom says…”it depends.” Let’s talk about when your might want to niche and when not to.

    1. Why some people are asking; “Is Psychotherapy White?” Yes, we all took cross-cultural courses in our grad programs. But when we are in the room with our clients, can we step outside our ethnocentric mindset and values and understand the (often unspoken) cultural norms of another culture? Let’ see what the research is suggesting.

    1. Other therapy business models to employ in addition to private practice. We’ll take a look at how therapists can leverage their time and energy and not be limited to “seat in the chair hours.” We will explore other therapy business models including hiring other therapists and interns in a training center or developing a seminar business or any one of a myriad of alternate ways to design your therapy business. We will address how to choose one of these models – see if it is for you  - and give you some next steps if you want to expand beyond private practice.

    1. How to find time for marketing – along with the rest of the demands on your time and life. Some call this “productivity” – others call it “taking care of the Golden Goose” – either way, you must create a business that is sustainable. And your business and marketing activities aren’t just tasks you do once and then “get on with the real business which is seeing clients.” We’ll look at what leading experts share about how to get more done, have more fun and make money in the time you already have.

and more as they become “hot topics”.

When will this “Therapist as Entrepreneur” Winning Strategies group mentorship program start?

This mentorship group starts in January and will run for ten months. All calls (75 to 90 minute calls) will be held once a month on a Monday at 2 pm pacific. There will be downloadable, mp3 recordings of every call. You can choose to listen live or later – via the phone or internet.

Is this Winning Strategies group mentorship program right for you?

If you are looking for marketing techniques, you can go to the web and find plenty of free information. And if strategies alone are what you are looking for, this program won’t be for you.

My vision for this program is that it is really a community of clinicians centered around leading edge conversations and discussion – about being a therapy business owner. We will explore innovative marketing information – including not only what is working but why it is working. We will talk about important trends you need to know about. I love studying trends and translating what I have learned into real life lessons for you. For example, one of the trends and big ideas we will talk about is why clients stay in therapy so you know more about how to keep clients from prematurely terminating their treatment with you.

And you will receive a digital copy of our “nuts and bolts” How To Build Your Full and Rewarding Private Practice self study course filled with step-by-step instructions of how to do the marketing activities so when you are ready to implement you have the specifics.

But what about the fact that the public doesn’t see therapy as the well-respected profession it once was?
What can we do about that?

We change perception a little at a time. And I am committed to that change. I want the public to see therapy as a viable and effective option for emotional and relationships problems. I invite you to help me make with that change.

Each member of this training program will receive a pre-recorded 1 to 3 minute “Pro-Therapy” video that you can download and then place on your website. These videos are my attempt at changing our culture one therapist and one website at a time.

Here is an example: (Press the play button and turn up your speakers.)

Oh and did I mention that you will have the chance to view and download a new video every month if you like? This means you can change the video on your site often which can lead to more web visitors and more traffic to your site. Plus the uplifting, positive (and sometimes humorous) messages contained in these videos will endear you to potential new clients.

While we will provide a new video each month, you will be responsible for hosting any video you wish to place on your site. Your web person should be able to easily put them on your site for you. (Please note these will be tasteful yet generic videos – they will not be personalized.)

Are CEUs available for the group mentorship program?

I gave a lot of thought to this and decided not to offer CEUs. I am sorry if that is a deal-breaker for you. Here is my reasoning. Strengthening our therapreneur muscles is necessary for the viability and sustainability of our businesses. Our commitment to that goal in my mind needs to be first. This program is not intended for people who are seeking CEUs.

Okay, I know you are wondering how much this will be, right? Okay here it is:

The fee for this one-of-a-kind training program will be launched later at $197 a month. But now – for you, you can reserve your seat for less than half of that.
